Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, is a medication that can help men who suffer from erectile dysfunction (ED) improve their sex lives. One such study showed that men who took the ED medication sildenafil or Viagra were more likely to have erections.
In a separate study, researchers found that a group of men who took the medication experienced more improved erections than a group who did not take the medication.
“We found that taking sildenafil in combination with a reduced-intensity phosphodiesterase type-5 inhibitor (such as finasteride) improved the ability to achieve and maintain erections,” says study leader Dr. Andrew L. Miller, a urology specialist at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
“This finding was backed by an earlier study showing that sildenafil was not associated with improved erectile function in men with diabetes,” adds Dr. Miller. “These results confirm the potential benefits of sildenafil and highlight the need for further research to explore the mechanisms and potential benefits of this medication for men who suffer from ED.”
In another study, Dr. Peter S. Kuntz of the University of Minnesota analyzed the data from more than 600,000 men between the ages of 18 and 41 who suffered from erectile dysfunction. The men who took sildenafil and the men who did not take the medication had a significantly higher rate of improved erectile function than the men who did not take the medication. Sildenafil had similar effects on the ability to achieve and maintain erections, as well as on blood flow to the penis.

“This is the first study to show that sildenafil improves sexual performance in men with ED.”The study found that men taking sildenafil had a higher chance of achieving and maintaining an erection in both intercourse and sexual activities. When compared to the men who did not take the medication, the researchers found that men who took the medication had an overall better sex life and improved their ability to perform sexually.
“This suggests that sildenafil may not be as important for men with ED as the medication used in the study,” Dr. “This is another area of concern for men who have erectile dysfunction, and it’s important to note that men who suffer from ED can experience erectile dysfunction more often than the men who have no ED.”

A few years ago, we made headlines when we reported that Viagra had been approved for use in treating erectile dysfunction. The story prompted the FDA to issue a safety warning.
The drug had been available in generic form since the late 1990s, but the FDA issued a warning on March 4 that the drug was not safe for use in treating erectile dysfunction.
In a letter to physicians and patients, the FDA said that the warning was based on a review of reports of side effects caused by Viagra, sildenafil (Viagra), and other drugs.

We urge the FDA to address these concerns and to immediately revise the labeling of Viagra and sildenafil to reflect this new information to improve the safety of patients taking these drugs.”
In addition, the FDA has directed that physicians and patients should be able to stop prescribing Viagra or sildenafil if they experience a sudden decrease in blood pressure.
